Balaguer Espada Ambient Select
Designed in collaboration with various artists in the ambient/shoegaze genres, the Balaguer Espada Ambient Select is hand-crafted to exacting specs by the incredibly skilled luthiers at Balaguer's South Korean facility, with plenty of premium features, and a gig bag included. Like all select-series Balaguer guitars, final inspection is completed in Balaguer's U.S.A. headquarters. The Espada Ambient is one of Balaguer's most innovative designs; think a combination of Jazzmaster and semi-hollow tones, with Jazzmaster playability, and all the kind high-end specs you can expect from Balaguer: ergonomic neck joint for unobstructed upper fret access, Roasted Maple neck and Ebony fretboard with stainless steel frets, locking tuners and a graphite nut.
The Espada Ambient's semi-hollow Alder body makes an excellent tonal foundation for a pair of foil-covered Evergreen pickups. Balaguer's Evergreen pickups are a medium output, wax-potted & scatterwound Alnico V humbucker, and the way they interact with the Ambient's semi-hollow Alder body has to be hear to be believed; think medium-output vintage-spec P.A.F.s loaded into a semi-hollow, with Filtertron-esque sparkle and chime. Engage the push/pull for pretty convincing Jazzmaster/Tele-style single-coil tones, which still retain plenty of the acoustic resonance of its' semi-hollow build. Don't be fooled though, Balaguer designed the Evergreen to be their most versatile pickup - not only are they perfect for pristine and articulate cleans, but they can definitely handle themselves when you turn up the gain, excelling at everything from blues and rock 'n' roll to brutally high gain metal.
